Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1 Q – How complicated is it to apply for burial insurance?

A – Very simple. For most of our customers we’re able to do the entire application while on the phone. In fact, many policies are approved within 30 minutes.

2 Q – What if I’ve been denied in the past can I still get burial insurance?

A – We have access to over 300 burial insurance programs within the USA. Among this group are guaranteed options for those that may have been denied in the past or have a more involved medical profile.

3 Q – Is this the type of insurance that will go up in cost every few years?

A – No. All of our programs have three guarantees(as long as you’re making paying the premium) :

    1. The cost/payment is Guaranteed never to go up
    2. The policy is Guaranteed not to expire
    3. The death benefit is Guaranteed never to go down in value

Take a close look at some of the final expense and burial TV commercials or mails and you’ll learn that there are limitation, and restrictions that could not hold muster/or compare to our 3 Guarantees.

4 Q – Will the coverage change if my medical history changes?

A – NO. Prices go up as as age goes up and when our health deteriorates, that’s why is makes send to lock into a policy as soon as possible.(if you are not sure you could afford so much. Okay, then get something. what every fits within your budget. You could always add to the policy at a later date. This strategy is better than pushing this decision off indefinitely or to later date when the cost will for sure be more expensive.)

Once you get a policy with us the rate will never change.

5 Q – I have some coverage, how do I know if I have enough?

A – That’s what we do. We take the time to understand to learn about you and your needs. Then we help guide you based on your age, where you live and what type of burial you want. We take pride in taking the time and understand and explain things so that you will have the tools/information needed make an education decision.

We have an agenda. And that to do right by you so you’ll rave about us to your family and friends. The backbone of our business is built on reputation and referrals. Basically, we have more to gain by providing exceptional service!

6 Q – I was told that social security will pay for towards my burial expenses

A – That could be true. I say ‘could be’, because firstly, one would have to qualify for that benefit. and secondly, even if you did qualify, social security would only pay $255 towards ones funeral costs. (mind you that in 2020 the average burial costs a little over $7,000) So even if you wanted to count on social security’s money, it will not cover much of your final expenses.

7 Q – Is there a difference between final expense and burial insurance?

A – No. There is not difference between final expense and burial insurance; they mean the same thing.

8 Q – I currently have work insurance, do I need anything else?

A – Maybe. Maybe not…

First we need to figure out how much burial insurance you need. Then we need to learn a)how much burial insurance you are eligible for at work b)what will keep you eligible in the future.

Most people don’t plan to do while they are working. Does their policy cover you if you died at home and not at work? Does it cover you if you died oversees? Once you get the answer to these questions

Most work policies, we’ve come across expire once you leave work, get fire or retire. So for most people having doesn’t mean you should count on it.

9 Q – I take over ten prescriptions for things like diabetes, stress and cholesterol, should I bother applying?

A- The good news is, that you’d be eligible for a guaranteed issue burial insurance program regardless. But my job doesn’t end here. I want to get you the best policy at the lowest cost. Even as a diabetic taking numerous medication, you may qualify for a level, most affordable plan. That’s why we take time to learn about you. This is all done before we ask for any of your personal info like social security number or payment info.

10 Q – Is here a difference between in-ground and cremation costs?

A- There are four basic category of costs to consider. 1)in-ground or 2)cremation 3)with a service 4)without a service.

It goes without saying that you should consider that which makes you happy and helps to fulfill your wishes. Having said that, cremation is less expensive than an in-ground burial. For example in 2020 a in-ground burial with a service can cost $7,000-$10,000 in some parts on the USA in those places a cremation would cost $3,500-$6,000.

The burial insurance program you purchase is the same. The only difference would be the amount of coverage you would like to secure.

11 Q – I have to ask my spouse? or want to think about it? is that OKay?

A- Take all the time you need. We don’t believe is pushy sales talk. We don’t mind you seeking the guidance or shopping around. This makes you a more educated consumer. We know that our service, policies, and price cannot be beat.

We will explain that by waiting to get this or any other policy the options may change or may in some cases be too late because a)you never know when your time will come b)your health may change c)age drives the cost up- by a couple of dollars.

In our opinion, don’t procrastinate. Get this or another policy. (FYI if you notice the cost of the final expense/burial insurance to be much cheaper on a mailing you received at home or a TV or Radio ad- check two things.1)is the cost guaranteed not to go up. 2)is the policy guaranteed never to expire.  Most of those plans are setup to have the price go up every few years and expire at age 80 leaving you in a situation where you may not be able to afford the rate increase or  age 80 the policy expires… )

12 Q – What If i get sick down the road, can I have access to some of this money?

A- Excellent question. As these plans are backed by whole life insurance policies, right after year three of your policy cash value will begin to accumulate. In addition, some of the burial insurance plans options, in the even you got sick  for you to be able to take 40-50% of the policy value to pay for medical expenses.

13 Q – Does the money have to used for a burial?

A- No. The funds received will be tax free and can be used for any purpose. Its not uncommon for a spouse/child to have a little left over from the burial insurance program. Those funds are a the discretion of the beneficiary.

14 Q – Are you selling me a pre-paid burial?

A- No. We don’t offer any pre-paid burial insurance policies. Our concern is you flexibility and financial security. When purchasing pre-paid plan you don’t have control of the excess funds. You are limited to the plans options which at that time may not meet you needs and wants. Lastly, what if the pre-paid plan network goes away- bankrupt or out of business, who will honor your investment?

What some of the pre-paid burial plans market the ability to plan the service and details of your own funeral based on your vision and wishes thereby,  relieving your loved ones of stress. (this is a nice option but isn’t limited to pre-paid plans. you can purchase an affordable burial insurance from us and then go to your local funeral home to submit your plans and wishes- even to the detail what type of flowers to display and the actual program of who should speak.)

The funeral home will gladly take this plan because it means they can count of your business in the future. FYI it wouldn’t be a good idea to tell them how much insurance you have but simply that you will have insurance.

Don’t be surprised if the funeral home may ask you to assign the policy to them now. (don’t do it) or they may try to have you invest in a pre-paid plan they are affiliated with. Their message will be firm and clear- “we can’t tell you want a funeral will cost when you die…but if you get the pre-paid plan we can assure you that your wishes will be honored.

15 Q – Can my family use these funds to bury me in a different country?

A- The funds can be used anywhere in the world. Remember, the check will be sent to beneficiary. That person will deposit that tax-free check and then begin planning the funeral.

16 Q- How long will my loved one have to wait to receive the check from this policy?

A- The funds are usually made available to your beneficiary in the form of a check within three days of  your passing.

About Print Ads in the Mail or TV/Radio Ads

You may receive dozen of mailing or see TV ads that are very enticing. Its hard not to notice the constant barrage of ads especially when they show really great (aka low) prices or even have trusted celebrities speaking on their behalf.

These are good policies being offered by well known and good companies. There is no catch. But the program or policies they offer may not be what you are looking for:

Do these policies go up in price every 3-5 years?

Do they reduce your coverage if your health changes?

Do these policies expire? (like around age 80)

Bottom line, their price may look good  ‘today’, but can you count on them ‘tomorrow’?

All of our burial insurance programs offer guarantees you can count on.

(check out our Q&A section below. see Question 3. This is where we discuss the three Guarantees you can count on having with each one of our policies.)

All Burial Insurance Professionals are Not Created Equal

Independent Specialist  vs  Insurance Salesman

Which one do you want to work with? and how can you tell the difference between them?

Insurance Salesman:

When you meet an Insurance Salesman you will notice that they usually have the insurance company’s best interest in mind before your interest. They will usually come looking for you; either in-person (many may just randomly knock on your door and are hard to turn away) or over the phone and they will explain that they will be or are in the area. Before you know it they will invite themselves into your home or into a conversation where they skillfully make you feel bad for not “buying” what they are selling.

This is their job, to get you to ‘buy’ the product they are peddling. Now to be fair, in many cases these are good people people trying to make an honest living. The problem is, very often these salespeople on focus on the sale and not your needs. Don’t get me wrong they are offering you a legitimate final expense or burial insurance that comes along with many solution and benefits to your needs.

Independent Specialist:

An independent burial specialist should first focus on your situation and needs. Then based on that information, they will take the time to educate you on the different options. In most cases, the specialist is comparing dozens of burial options to suit your needs. This is how you can feel more secure that you are getting a better program/policy at the best price.

The easiest way to sniff these sales people out is usually by asking one of two questions

  1. Do you work for an insurance company or bank? (sometimes referred to as a captive agent)
  2. Do you offer/sell many different plans from different companies other than the one you work for? (I had one gentlemen tell me that he offers his clients many different insurance companies plans. but when I asked him what percentage bought his company’s plan, he told me 100%. How could he explain that I asked? he told me that his company’s product is superior… maybe but I don’t buy it. )

At Select Burial Insurance you will only find independent burial specialists who will take the time to help you find the best program at the most affordable plan
